Celebrating Women in Leadership: An Interview with Nicola Cook
We are proud to have strong female leaders guiding our teams. One such leader is Nicola Cook, our Business Manager, who has made an incredible impact through her leadership, determination, and passion for recruitment. We had the privilege of speaking with Nicola about her career journey, her inspirations, and her advice for future female leaders.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a leadership role in recruitment, and how do you empower other women to do the same?
A: I’m passionate about connecting talent with opportunity and driving real change within my business. Leadership has allowed me to shape the company culture, promote diversity, and make strategic decisions that influence the success of both clients and candidates.
To empower other women in recruitment, I:
1. Lead by Example – Show that success is possible and encourage women to pursue leadership positions.
2. Advocate for Equal Opportunities – Ensure fair pay, promotions, and professional development opportunities.
3. Provide Mentorship & Support – Offer guidance & coaching
4. Create a Supportive Culture – Foster an environment where women feel valued, heard, and empowered to lead.
5. Be a Visible Role Model – By demonstrating resilience, confidence, and leadership in a way that encourages others to step up.
Q: Who has been an inspirational figure in your career, and why?
A: I’ve been fortunate to have been managed by several inspirational women who have supported, guided, and provided me with opportunities to grow. Both my current MD, Helen Archer-Lock, and my previous MD, Mel Forbes, have demonstrated strong leadership qualities that I deeply admire. They possess incredible business knowledge and acumen, but above all, they are incredibly supportive and create an environment where anything feels possible.
Q: What advice would you give to future female leaders in the recruitment industry?
A: Believe in yourself – confidence is key. Trust in your abilities.
Seek Mentorship & Build a Network – Find mentors who can guide you, provide insights, and open doors
Never Stop Learning – Stay curious and keep learning. Whether it’s about new recruitment strategies, business trends, or leadership skills
Be Bold and Take Risks – Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone
Create Inclusive Spaces –build inclusive teams where everyone feels valued and heard. Representation matters.
Lead with Empathy –lead with care and empathy to build trust and loyalty.
Be a Role Model – Show them what’s possible!
